ELISA-anti-ASCA

The ELISA-anti-ASCA IgA, IgG, IgM kits are aimed at the quantitative determination of IgA, IgG and IgM class antibodies against the mannose sequences of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast) cell walls in human serum.
The Saccharomyces cerevisiae tribes are heavily used in the food industry, therefore they are present in a number of food products. In the recent times, the determination of antibodies produced against Saccharomyces is being used as an auxiliary screening method improving the diagnostical possibilities of non-specific gut inflammations. These antibodies have been identified in patients suffering from the Crohn disease, however, only seldom in patients suffering from ulcerative colitis. Publications suggest that the IgA and IgG Saccharomyces antibodies are present in 39-68% of patients suffering from the Crohn disease, however only at most 14% of those suffering from ulcerative colitis. As a complement to the diagnostic procedures, the determination of ANCA (antibodies against the components of the cytoplasm of neutrophil leukocytes, subtype: peripheral coloring) is being used. The presence of ANCA is related to ulcerative colitis. Increased levels of IgA and IgG antibodies against Saccharomyces have been present also in other diseases, such as the coeliac disease, ankylosing spondylitis and in some of the autoimmune liver diseases. 14 to 43% of patients suffering from coeliac disease have produced antibodies against Saccharomyces.  On the other hand, the IgA antibodies against gliadin have been found with 10 to 35% of the Crohn disease patients.
